Counter aging

Mature skin lacks lipids due to decreased sebum production and is dry due to lower water content and imbalance natural moisturising factor (NMF). This can lead to a lack of tone and the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, loss of elasticity, laxity, and rough-textured appearance resulting in structural and functional changes in extracellular matrix components such as collagens and elastin.

Cell renewal

Skin stem cells, also called keratinocyte stem cells, are responsible for skin regeneration through a process called re-epithelialisation. The process becomes much slower as we age, the skin can appear thicker, less flexible, and more wrinkled or textured. For most adults under 50 years old, the cycle lasts between 28 and 45 days and this may increase to up to 90 days for adults over 50 years old.

Hydration boost

Dry skin is caused by a breakdown in the skin’s barrier function, which leads to the loss of moisture and a decline in the skin’s water-binding capacity. Therefore, dry flaky skin needs trans-epidermal hydration to prevent any further deterioration of the skin barrier and replaces the missing natural moisture. Prolonged dry skin may lead to premature aging and signs of aging such as fine lines will start to show.

Anti-acne and blemish

Acne, also known as Acne Vulgaris, is a non-contagious skin condition common in adolescents, caused by inflamed and infected sebaceous glands. However, acne can also be present amongst all age groups. Acne typically appears on the face, neck, shoulders, chest and back. Acneic and blemish-prone skin has a potential to develop comedones and pimples.

Redness relief

Skin redness is a common inflammatory condition affecting sensitive skin (usually type I and II), caused by erythema and inflammatory papules and pustules. Areas which are prone to redness are the central zones of the face such as forehead, nose, cheek and chin where blood vessels are visible due to vasodilation.

Skin resurfacing

Acne can leave mark and scar. Scars form when the outermost layers of skin, the epidermis, has been damaged and the deeper layers of the skin are also affected. Skin is unable to quickly and completely regenerate itself as we get older due to the decline in collagen. The collagen fibres in the reticular dermis fill the wound from the inside out and help to heal the damaged area of skin.

Dark spot reduction

Hyperpigmentation such as age spot and melasma is caused by the overproduction of the pigment melanin which can affect any part of the face and body, and make the skin look uneven in colour. Sun exposure is the primary cause of hyperpigmentation, as sunlight triggers the production of melanin. However, hyperpigmentation can be caused by either or both exogenous and endogenous factors.

Radiance

Skin radiance is greatly influenced by the reflectivity of skin cells. Factors such as aging, sun damage, oxidative stress and unsuitable skincare slow skin cell renewal, resulting in a complexion that may appear dull, tired, or even sallow. Dead skin cells, dark spots and uneven skin tone absorb light, minimising the healthy glow from skin complexion and triggering premature ageing and skin discolouration.
