Introduction

In Chinese medicine, diseases result from disruption in the flow of vital energy, Qi. What acupuncture can do is to work on getting energy moving again. Acupuncture is usually used to treat many different issues like pain issues, memory issues, skin issues, menstrual issues or digestive issues. It has been proven that the brain can release a chemical called endorphin after the needles are put in the areas close to nerves, which means it can relax our nervous system and make our body release its own naturally occurring pain killers.

Overview of the service

Before the treatment, the practitioners will do the consultation to diagnose which pattern or syndrome you currently have and then choose the positions like lying down with your head up or down or on either side.

During the treatment, the sensation you may have is a little bit of sharpness on the surface as the needle is going in which dissipates really quickly and sometimes you may feel numbness, tingling or aching when the needles are in. These feelings are what we are looking for. Because that shows us the qi, the vital energy, has arrived at the needle and it is starting to balance the body’s energy.

After the treatment, sometimes you may feel dizzy, loopy, calm or refreshed. The reaction can vary from different individual. But it’s common to have these feelings when your body starts to regulate or balance energy.

How it works

Acupuncture is a traditional Chinese medicine practice that involves inserting thin needles into specific points on the body to stimulate energy flow, known as qi (pronounced “chee”). According to traditional Chinese medicine theory, when qi becomes blocked or imbalanced, it can lead to pain and illness. By inserting needles into these points, acupuncturists aim to restore the balance of qi, promoting healing and alleviating symptoms. Modern research suggests that acupuncture may also stimulate the release of neurotransmitters and hormones, such as endorphins and serotonin, which can help reduce pain and promote a sense of well-being. Some of the benefits of acupuncture include pain relief, stress reduction, improved mood, enhanced immune function, and better overall health and vitality. Many people find acupuncture to be a safe and effective complementary therapy for various conditions, including chronic pain, headaches, anxiety, and insomnia.

FAQ

Does acupuncture hurt?
No, it doesn’t hurt, it will be dull, tingling feeling. Sometime you might feel sharp pain is the needle hit into the pore or capillary, which is harmless and it rarely happens. Whilst I am inserting the needles, if you feel the sharp pain, you should let me know, I will readjust it.
Is bruising normal? Does it mean anything?
No it’s not common, but it happens, depends on your skin type, how sensitive it is. When the needle hits the capillaries, it may cause the bruise, but there is nothing to worry about, it will clear eventually and feel free to cove by make up if it’s necessary.
Is acupuncture dangerous?
It could be dangerous, if the needles placed wrongly. Or unqualified acupuncturists may put you in the process but place the needle shallow, which means you are having placebo treatment, can be a waste of time and money
How often should I do the treatment and how long for the whole treatment?
Generally, it can be done 1-3 times/week depends on how severe the condition. The pain relief treatment has no certain number in total, you decide to finish the treatment when the pain is manageable enough for not coming back for more. If something chronic, you might need longer period of treatment to get longer effect.
